The accompanying picture of the turtle on a tree reflects how I see myself. Like the turtle, I didn’t reach this place on my own—someone placed it on that tree, just as God and others have positioned me in life. The opportunities, connections, and responsibilities I hold today are not a result of my own strength but are gifts granted to me through God’s guidance and meaningful relationships.
I grew up in an isolated area and faced difficult beginnings. Abandoned by my mother at the age of three, I was given the nickname “Bokshya” (meaning “evil son”) in childhood and later “Bajechor” (meaning “grandfather thief”) during my school years. Yet, God opened doors for me to pursue an education at a seminary in the United States, giving me the courage to return to Nepal. I am deeply grateful to God, my family, friends, and the U.S. embassy consular who granted me a student visa to study in the United States. This opportunity helped unlock my natural skills and has been a transformative part of my journey, reminding me that I did not walk this path alone.
Through these experiences, I’ve learned the immeasurable value of connections. Please, value connection as one of the greatest assets you have. It is through strong and meaningful connections that you will find the support, guidance, and encouragement needed to thrive and contribute to others. Relationships can lift you to places you couldn’t reach on your own, just as they lifted me. Treasure those who encourage you and invest in those around you—they will be an invaluable part of your growth and success.
I want to encourage you to discover your natural abilities and find joy in contributing to the world, like a honeybee bringing sweetness, rather than chasing an impossible path. Don’t be a fish trying to climb a tree or a spider—be true to yourself, and use the talents and opportunities you’ve been given to make a difference.
Looking forward, I envision an education system in Nepal where students and educators are empowered to soar like eagles in the sky, rather than having their wings clipped and confined to a cage. I am committed to fighting for a future where the next generation, including my grandchildren, can thrive in an environment that encourages them to reach their full potential without restrictions. This vision drives me to keep moving forward and striving for change.
Through God’s blessing, I have been given a grand vision and a network of family and friends who have supported me, even when my dreams seemed daunting. Now, I see more light at the end of the tunnel, and I hope my journey inspires you to persevere, value your connections, and pursue your purpose with passion and integrity. Remember, you were meant to soar.
Not with Turtle on the Tree – But Writing It
I haven’t written Turtle on the Tree yet—but I’m living it. This story is unfolding day by day, shaped by grace, lifted by relationships, and grounded in a purpose greater than myself. Like the turtle, I didn’t climb here on my own. I was placed, positioned, and propelled by the invisible hands of God and the visible kindness of people. As I write this story, I invite you to walk with me—because every step forward is not just mine, but ours.
